Easier for men to tinker with cars than with themselves

vroom

Meaning only that men don’t like personal upkeep, preventative maintenance, or annual check ups. They find caring for their cars to be much easier than caring for themselves.

According to a survey, almost 70 percent of American men find it less taxing to pop the hood and poke around than to care for themselves medically. Forty percent said they would be more likely to hit their car issues head on than their own personal health issues.

“For many men, tuning up our cars is easier than getting checkups for our health,” said NASCAR driver Terry Labonte in a statement. Labonte was recently named one of NASCAR’s top 50 greatest drivers. Not coincidentally, he is the spokesperson for a national initiative sponsored by Men’s Health Network and the pharmaceutical company Abbott Laboratories to get men to see their doctors more often and adopt preventive measures for better health.

The two companies also sponsored the survey which talked to 501 men between the ages of 45 and 65. They also talked to their spouses and found out that 28% of men do not visit the doctor regularly. This is in spite of the fact that 40% of the women partners surveyed said they were concerned about their man’s health.

The women also said they were more concerned about their guy’s health than their own. But if these men are spending more time diagnosing their car’s problems than their own health issues, there is reason for worry.
