You Want to Eat What?!? Pregnancy Cravings Gone Too Far

Sure, we all know we’re supposed to be on the top of our nutrition game during pregnancy, but sometimes we just… well, we want something that may not be the healthiest. Or we want something in quantities that may not be considered… “normal”. My personal craving? Big Macs from McDonalds. Nothing too weird about that, at least not compared to these other crazy cravings.

Cans of Mushrooms
I’ve never been a fan of this fungi, but apparently SOME women (or at least one I personally know) would eat can upon can of mushrooms A DAY. What baby wants, baby gets, right?
Spinach, Watermelon and Hot Wings
All at once. Together. Not as side dishes, just mush them all up in one big bundle and shove all three in your mouth. I wonder if this could be a new protein shake flavor?
Pizza with Mustard
I suppose the pepperoni and tomato sauce just aren’t good enough for all of us. I wonder if the pizzeria would put mustard on as a topping if I asked for it…?
Grass
I know that being pregnant sometimes brings out those earthly and natural feelings in us, but grass? I had one mother tell me she would pick a few blades from her backyard and sneak them into her mouth when ever she could. “It was like cheesecake for me!” she gushed. Her husband was, uh, less than thrilled…
Oreos with Cheese Whiz
Yes, and that’s with the cheese whiz spread ON TOP of the Oreo cookie. This is definitely one craving I would have never expected…
What if a craving is a bit… too weird?
Craving dirt? Charcoal? Bleach? There is a condition that some pregnant women experience, called “pica”, which should be brought to the attention of your health care practitioner. Pica is usually an indicator that your body is lacking some important nutrient, and is trying to seek it out in very strange sources. Be sure to be screened for any deficiencies you may unknowingly have so you can be sure that you and your baby are in the best of health.
