With chemical additives invading every corner of our life, parabens add one more level of concern. Widely used as a preservative in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, parabens mimic the hormone estrogen. This has led to concerns about a connection between breast cancer in women and reproductive development in men. With studies on both sides of the issue, regulators have not yet banned the substance. However cautious consumers are on the watch for paraben free skin car products.
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) recommends checking labels before buying any products.1 If you are still unsure, then call or email the company's customer service department. BCA has compiled a list of “paraben free cosmetic companies” on their website.
