Quick Refrigerator Cleaning Tips

Submitted by Marsha Newsom on Sun, 02/21/2010 - 12:48

It's the worst cleaning job in the house. Your refrigerator can be an archeological dig with remains of meals for the last weeks (months?). Two simple ingredients can help you get, and keep, your refrigerator clean and fresh.

Vinegar and Baking Soda to the Rescue

Vinegar and baking soda can help clean and deodorize, and eliminate any risk of that your food will come in contact with residue from toxic household cleaners.

Make a paste of baking soda to clean the tough spots on shelves, racks and refrigerator walls. Make a cleaning solution of ½ cup of white vinegar mixed in a quart of water. Use it to spray the inside of the refrigerator. It will leave glass shelves shiny.

Do you have dishes and storage containers that retain odors from spoiled food? Soak them in sink full of hot water, to which you have added a ½ cup of white vinegar. Does your refrigerator smell even after the food has been removed. Sit a bowl full of vinegar on the shelf and close the door. Let it sit overnight and even the worst odor will be gone. Then keep your fridge smelling sweet by leaving an open container of baking soda in back of one of the shelves.
