Immune-Boosting Supplements for Winter Health

Submitted by Courtney on Tue, 03/09/2010 - 19:13

Winter time usually means sniffles, sneezes and flues, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Did you know that by complimenting both your diet and your lifestyle with these immune-boosting supplements you can avoid most – if not all – winter time illnesses altogether? Here are my personal favorite immune boosters that you can start using TODAY to improve your health:

Sleep

Sleep is perhaps THE MOST underrated thing that we do on a daily basis. Oh, you may boast about how little rest you need to operate, but just how well are you operating? People who do not receive the needed 6 to 10 hours of sleep per night suffer from concentration loss, increased anxiety and stress, and yes –illness. Remember, sleep is our body’s “downtime”. Without this restful period every day, our bodies cannot properly refresh, rebuild and rejuvenate.

Lemons

This food is all about helping us restore our acid-alkali balance. Having a proper acid-alkali balance helps our bodies support the healthy bacteria in our system while combating harmful bacteria and viruses. You can add a squeeze of fresh lemon to almost anything: water, teas, salad dressings, and numerous other delicious foods.

Water

An astounding amount of people do not drink nearly enough water each day that we need to support our bodies on the most basic of levels: the cellular level. Water also helps wash the unhealthy toxins that are responsible for many illnesses out of our body.

Herbal Supplements

You have undoubtedly passed numerous herbal supplements on the store shelves that claim to give your body an immune boost – and they will! Aim for buying fresh herbal supplements or essential oils as they are far more potent and your body will be able to absorb them better.

TIP: My personal favorite herbal supplement is any that contain Red Reishi mushrooms.

Exercise

The fresh air that outdoor exercise offers us and the endorphin rush we get from moving our limbs works wonders in helping our bodies eliminate stress, lose weight, digest, and improve our overall sense of well being.

Eat Fresh

Modern times afford us the ability to have any sort of fresh fruit or vegetable even in the dead of winter. Take advantage of the availability of fresh produce! Stray from processed and packaged foods, and most importantly keep as many refined sugars out of your diet as possible.

For more great immune boosting supplements that you can add to your every day life, speak to your doctor or natural health practitioner for more tips and advice.
