The transition to healthful, natural alternatives began as a financial necessity and grew into into a lifestyle for Marsha Newsom. With the birth of twin daughters, she took her writing career from a business office to a home office. As her free lance career was growing, she found herself with too much time and too little income. Raised on a farm, Marsha knew about gardening, canning and home cooking. She decided that, with two extra mouths to feed, it was time to go back to her roots. Or as much as she could living in Chicago. Always the researcher, she went on the hunt for information.
In her search for recipes and techniques, Marsha learned she wasn't alone in her quest. A growing number of people were turning to farmers' markets, coop and organic grocers for their food.
By the time daughter number three arrived (a single this time), she was adept at homemade baby food, healthy toddler snacks, and meatless meals.
With daughters grown and middle age a reality, she has turned to natural alternatives for everything from face lotion to herbal remedies to improve her quality of life.
