Have your cup and eat it too!

Just imagine, finish your beverage and then snack on the cup. No mess, no clean up and no waste for you the hostess or you the caretaker of the environment. Delicious, nutritious and vegan.

This unusual and efficient idea comes out of the Gowanus Studio Space 2nd Annual Jell-O Mold Competition. This annual competition encourages creative thinkers to use Jell-O in ways outside the box. It was a submission by the Way We See the World which won in the Jelloware category. This company specializes in witty industrial design. The cups are made in molds from agar agar (a type of seaweed extract), all natural and biodegradable. They come in three flavors in three different colors: lemon-basil, ginger-mint, and rosemary-beet.

As you can imagine, an innovation like this could be a first step toward eliminating post-party plastic cup waste. And clean up time. Even if you don’t eat it, it basically melts away, biodegrading naturally and quickly. Toss it in the garden or leave it on the grass.

I don’t think I’d pour a beer into one, but I could see a mojito or a fresh squeezed lemonade. They would no doubt be the talk of the party and very likely a take away for people delighted by the idea. In any case, a guilt free toss into the compost heap (or left on the yard!) is always welcome.
