Running barely barefoot

run like the wind

Have you seen the running booties? I live near the beach, and they are everywhere. Is it a fashion victim or a dedicated athlete who wears these things? Let’s take a look.

These shoes actually take advantage of something completely natural and environmentally friendly: your feet. Yes, it’s as close as you can come to running with naked feet unless of course you run with naked feet.

People are really starting to buy these minimal shoes, the so-called barefoot shoe. They are wearing them not only to run but to hike, cross train, play tennis, you name it. “It’s like wearing little hobbit feet,” said Matthew Sand, LA resident, who wears his anti-shoes for walking the dog. “It feels like walking barefoot across the grass when you were a kid, but also high-tech and cool. It is both the future and the pat wrapped up with me and my toes.” It should surprise no one that Sand is a screenwriter.

The barefoot shoe is suppose to work with the body’s natural biomechanics to strengthen the calf, core and foot muscles. It puts the gait into alignment and improves posture. Apparently, the feet can really feel the ground giving the body a chance to make small and subtle adjustments to balance and agility.

It’s yet to be seen if this style will last or if it’s a fad which will fade. But sales are up and people will usually try anything. At least once.
