Seven foods for better focus and concentration

We can all use that extra boost to get that focus back and bring on that laser-like concentration. Skip the supplements, walk past the power shot drinks and go straight to the produce section to start down this list of seven helpful foods that can lead you back to your track and keep you there.

1. Blueberries. That’s right! They are packed with anti-oxidants. The sweet little berries, found fresh or frozen, alone or mixed in with other foods, are believed to help your brain protect itself from stress, dementia and even Alzheimer’s disease.
2. Avocado. This fruit (yes, a fruit!) can help protect from cardiovascular disease and pump oxygen rich blood through your body and to your brain increasing alertness.
3. Whole grains. Never skip breakfast! Your body and brain need fuel to start the day and one of the best breakfasts will incorporate whole grain. Cold or hot grains eaten by themselves are best, but even breads enriched with whole grains make an excellent toast alternative.
4. Nuts and Dark Chocolate. Reach for almonds or cashews as an excellent mid day snack. High in protein and vitamin E, these powerful little antioxidants combat signs of aging. Dark chocolate contains natural stimulants to keep you focused.
5. Fish. High in protein and omega 3 fatty acids, fish will give you amazing brain power keeping your mind sharper as you age. Try to incorporate salmon weekly into your diet for best results.
6. Natural sugar. Found in fresh fruit, nothing beats the boost of natural sugars from an apple or a juicy orange or a seasonal peach. While juices don’t have the fiber, a small glass during the mid-day downer can provide a quick boost.
7. Caffeine. It’s naturally found in coffee, tea and chocolate and when not overdone can energize you.
