Americans crack up the world
Badoo.com, the social network and dating website, conducted a poll and has proclaimed that the world thinks Americans are the funniest people on the planet. For the poll, “the world” was represented by 30,000 voters from 15 countries. The second funniest people are the Spanish followed by the Italians and the French - which is pretty funny all by itself. The French? Really?
The poll asked for votes on the “funniest”, or “the best at making people laugh” and also “the least funny” nationality.
As was pointed out by Reuters, voting for “least funny” nationality only confirmed the famous observation by American humorist Mark Twain that “a German joke is no laughing matter.” The Germans indeed took the honor of least funny, followed by the Russians and the Turks.
Oddly, the British were way down on the most funny list. The nation that gave us Monty Python and the Ministry of Silly Walks, as well as Hugh Grant who is funny for any number of reasons, placed seventh. Just as interesting, they placed fourth, behind the Turks on the least funny list.
“I’m afraid we don’t find some of the results very funny,” said Badoo’s Director of Marketing Lloyd Price, who is himself, British. I suspect he’s angry enough to nibble someone’s bum.
